Microsoft Launches Its First Android App

Yes, you heard it right. Microsoft has launched its first Android application. It actually came as a surprise to many to know that Microsoft has developed an application for Google’s mobile platform.

This Android application called Tag would allow users to use their Android phones as mobile barcode reader. You simply need to snap a picture of the tag that you want to read and the Tag application will interpret the bar code on it for you.

Microsoft released Tag on iPhone around 2 months back and its great to see that in spite of the never ending MS vs. Google rivalry they have taken the step to take their technology out through the increasingly popular Android platform.

It should be noted that other companies, including Google, are working on these mobile barcode readers as well.

Besides Android and iPhone, Tag also runs on Windows Mobile, J2ME, Blackberry and Symbian S60 phones.

Tag for Android is already available on Android Marketplace and it is for FREE !
