Hacked Android 2.2 downloaded over 40,000 times
Jul 9, 2010 News

Google announced Android 2.2 Froyo in May this year but since then users have been desperately waiting for updates to their devices . Meanwhile in the hacking community there were a lot of releases of Android 2.2 . Users were so eager to download the Android 2.2 that they couldn’t wait until the official Android 2.2 was ported to their Android devices. As a result many of the users have downloaded the hacked Android 2.2 ROM and the count goes to 40,000 downloads in a week .
We rarely get to know the number of custom ROM’s which have been downloaded , the reason being these ROM’s are distributed among many websites , blogs , forums and file hosting services and even if they are on an official website , they don’t disclose numbers for such hacked ROM’s or any sort of illegal software . The only thing researchers know are the comments and thanks hit by audience which downloads it , which is only a part of users who actively participate and give comments , others are just happy with their device once it runs fine others come back with complaints of bricked device .
After Android hacker Peter Alfonso finished up his overclocked and highly modified build of Android 2.2 this release has been dubbed by “BuglessBeast” for Motorola Droid, the download link was a 301 redirect from bit.ly and was then posted on to Twitter, where it spread like wildfire. Thanks to the link living on bit.ly and the fact that bit.ly offers up click statistics pages to anyone who knows the right way to tweak the URL (pro tip: add a + to the end), crunchies checked out how many people hit this link for their own use and the figure comes to be 37,642 , quiye a large number in just a week . People are driving crazy with the Android 2.2 , it’s not just the Android 2.2 but a more customized version with fixed bugs which is out before the actual Froyo on many devices including DroidX & EVO .
Android application developers, have you hacked your Android device with this unofficial Android 2.2.
