Its Now ‘One’ Android And ‘Two’ iOS
Oct 28, 2011 Android Phones
In the race to dominate the smartphone market, Android OS has now leads Apple’s iOS in the total number of apps downloaded according tο ABI Research.
Android based mobile apps was downloaded 44% in the second quarter of 2011, as opposed to 31% of iOs based mobile applications. According to ABI Research, Apple is still ahead in terms of apps downloaded per user by two to one, but the number of users who uses Android phones makes up for the difference. Android’s install base now exceeds iOS bу a margin οf 2.4-tο-1 worldwide; bу 2016 thаt wіƖƖ grow tο 3-tο-1.
“Android’s open source strategy is the main factor for its success,” said Lim Shiyang, ABI research associate. “Being a free platform has expanded the Android device install base, which in turn has driven growth in the number of third-party multi-platform and mobile operator app stores.”
It is also expected that Android would surpass Apple in terms of total number of applications available by 2012.
“Apple’s superior monetization policies attracted ехсеƖƖеnt developers within іtѕ ranks, thus mаkіnɡ a better catalog οf apps аnԁ customer experience,” ѕауѕ ABI.
The open source strategy has led the Android Market to such a speedy growth. The statistics are encouraging for Android developers, but there are lot of areas where it can improve.

Android Phones gets Google Video Chat
May 2, 2011 Android Phones
GTalk is going to get a new feature. Google has announced that they would be launching GTalk with video chat for Android Phones.
You can have a video chat with your contacts irrespective of whether they are using their Android phone or using Gmail with Google Talk on their computer. It supports calls over a 3G or 4G data network or Wifi.
Using this feature is very simple. All you need to do is touch the Video button that appears next to your contacts and you get connected. Checking out other applications is not a problem as the video can be paused. The audio will continue though the video has been paused so your call does not get disconnected while using another application.
Google has mentioned that the first to get this feature would be Google Nexus S users. This update is part of the Android 2.3.4 upgrade and would start rolling out to users in the next few weeks. Android 2.3+ devices will eventually get the video chat option though no set time has been said.
