Feb 24, 2010 Android App Development
Think how good it would have been to point your Android phone at some one and get all the info about the person in a jiffy ? Well, not exactly like that but pretty close to this is what you can do with the Recognizr Android app. A company call the The Astonishing Tribe has already developed a prototype of this app and has aptly named it Recognizr.
When a user focuses their device’s camera on someone who has been entered into the app before, a series of user-defined icons will hover over a live image, providing quick links to that person’s Yahoo, Skype, Flickr, YouTube, Picasa, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, and business card.
The application prototype uses a 3D model to recognize facial features, of the person and then searches its server to find a match. once it is able to find a match it then shows the links to that person’s social media profiles that are already fed into the system.
Watch this cool video and see how exactly it works.
While this Android app can definitely raise some privacy concerns the fact remains that the app would be effective only for those people who have opt in to enter their own data into it. So there is no way this Android app can help you stalk the beautiful girl you met at the bar. As it seems for now this Android app is actually going to create a stir in the market however, its success would depend largely on the fact whether users are willing to share their details. As we all are already sharing a lot about our personal life and activities on Twitter and Facebook I wouldn’t think people would shy away from sharing their details with this wonderful app.
